Holy Angels Dance Team - April 2017 Judges' Choice

Thank you for recognizing our program. The Holy Angels Dance Team was established in 2011 and the dancers attend the Academy of the Holy Angels located in Demarest, NJ.  The Holy Angels Dance Team--a nationally recognized and award-winning dance team--offers a comprehensive dance program in a variety of genres including Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Pom, and Hip Hop.   These dancers have won countless State Championships as well as two National Titles in 2016 and 2017 at the National Dance Team Championship in Orlando, Florida.  They are dancers that share the same passion for success, taking a mandatory eight dance classes a week from leading professionals in the dance industry.  Quality dance instruction is the key to their success.

They have performed at a New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden, a Brooklyn Nets game at Barclays, and a NJ Devils game at the Prudential Center.  They also perform at community events such as Demarest Day and the Closter Spring Fling.  Within Holy Angels, the Dance Team performs for Pep Rallies and Open Houses.

In addition to their commitment to artistic and technical excellence, in 2012, these girls were awarded 1st Runner Up in the prestigious American School Spirit Award.  The Holy Angels Dance Team was recognized as a top all-around dance program in the country, exemplifying community service, outstanding academic achievement, and spirit raising activities.  Throughout the year, the dancers participate in multiple philanthropic endeavors supporting various organizations

The team is coached by Jenny Sweet, Kristen Cebulski and Alyssa Aponte.  We also would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our teachers and choreographers for helping us to always strive for excellence.

The Holy Angels Dance Team competes at the National Dance Team Championship which is held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando.  Hundreds of high school dance teams from across the nation compete and the Holy Angels Dance Team took home our 2nd consecutive National Title in Small Varsity Hip Hop.  The competition is administered by the Universal Dance Association and is endorsed by the National Federation of State High School Associations.  Dancers on our team must find a balance between academics and athletics.  Each dancer makes a tremendous physical and mental commitment to the team.  We work toward excellence every year.  We use amazing choreographers and through the choreography, challenge the dancers to push themselves.  We practice and train hard.  We focus on the goal of giving everything we have, “leaving it all on the floor”, every time.  So we keep that a consistent focus.

The piece in the video was choreographed by The Rockwell Family--a hip hop crew located in Montreal, Canada.  It is always a fun experience learning new choreography because each year Rockwell pushes and challenges us to grow from the previous year.  We spend about a week developing and workshopping the choreography to create a piece that is unique to our talents and strengths. Then, we work every day leading up to Nationals cleaning and drilling the material in order to look like one dancer.

We are inspired by our teammates that have come before us.  Graduates lay the groundwork and we work every day to continue to build and grow as a program.

We have tryouts coming up for the 2017-2018 school year.  After tryouts, we start the process all over again with training and developing new competition material.
