I would like to thank the judges so much for selecting my entry as judges’ choice for June. It is a great honor. I have been dancing since I was three years old. I train at Gwinnett Ballet Theatre in Lawrenceville, GA under Artistic Director Wade Wathall. The majority of my training is in classical ballet, but I also have the opportunity to study contemporary ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop and tap. The 2014 YAGP was only my second time competing. For the most part my training is focused on the full length ballet productions that we do at Gwinnett Ballet. In recent years I have played Clara in The Nutcracker, Lilac Fairy in Cinderella, a Willi in Giselle, and danced the Russian and Chinese leads in The Nutcracker.
This summer I am looking forward to attending the Glenda Brown Choreography Project in Kansas City, MO. This scholarship will supplement the partial scholarship I received from that program. The most exciting thing about this project is the range of choreographers I will get to work with. We will have daily performances and daily critiques and feedback of our work.
This fall, I will be a senior at Brookwood High school, where I am a member of the Advanced Dance class and the Theater Dance class. I hope to attend college as a dance major.
I owe much thanks to my choreographer, Lauren Clark, and to my coaches, Rebecca Crawford Harmon and David Blumenfeld, for helping me to prepare for YAGP. And also to my Artistic Director Wade Walthall, Artistic Director Emeritus Lisa Sheppard Robison and my parents for always supporting and encouraging me.”
